The stripes in these rocks look like they've been painted on. Notice the shattered bits of shale scattered about in the background. One would be very unfortunate to be standing there when a chunk breaks off and crashes down.

Sturdy tree (goat fodder) sprouting from the rocks.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, moments before she slipped on the mossy rocks and plunged into the steep-sided, leech-filled pool whence she was rescued by Marilyn(see below.) Following her return to terra firma, she found, and toted about, a goat leg with the foot attached which was replaced in short order by an even more fascinating mammalian skull. Dog Heaven.

Lovely deep pool that one might be tempted to plunge into to escape the 120 degree heat......except that it was full of goat poop, leeches and fierce looking fish.

The perimeter of this pool was loaded with frogs clinging to the edges and lounging in the damp cracks in the rocks.

Part of the falaj (irrigation channel) that flows from the top of the canyon down into the desert floor.

The rocks are very smooth and slippery, and way too hot to stand on in bare feet.
